The Challenges & Their Solutions
Students could enroll in courses without validation, making it difficult to control access to premium or restricted content.
Implemented an access code validation mechanism where students can enroll and access course content only after entering a valid access code. Invalid or missing access codes prevent enrollment and content access.
Learners continued to have access to course content even after their access code validity ended, making it difficult to enforce subscription or license periods.
Added automatic access control based on access code validity. Once the code expires, learners immediately lose access to the course and must re-enroll with a new valid access code to regain access.
Instructors managing copied courses faced difficulty keeping them synchronized with changes made in the master course, often requiring manual updates.
Implemented a notification system that alerts instructors whenever new activities are added or updated in the master course. A dedicated Update option allows instructors to selectively sync only the required activities into their copied courses.
Instructors had to manually create the same activities in every LMS, resulting in duplicated effort and inconsistent content.
Implemented LTI Deep Linking, allowing instructors to select activities directly from CoursePower LMS and automatically create them in external LMS platforms without manual recreation.
Applying identical settings to multiple activities required updating each activity individually, increasing administrative effort and the risk of inconsistencies.
Developed a bulk activity settings feature that enables instructors to select multiple activities and apply the same configuration changes to all selected activities in a single action, ensuring consistency and saving time.
Key Features
Administrator Dashboard
The Administrator Dashboard is the main control panel of the LMS. From one place, administrators can manage users, instructors, courses, institutions, roles, and permissions. They can create and update courses, set course completion rules, manage access codes, assign roles, and monitor learner progress. The dashboard also provides reports and analytics, making it easy to manage and track all learning activities across the platform.
Instructor Dashboard
The Instructor Dashboard allows instructors to manage their courses without needing help from an administrator. They can add and update course content, create learning activities and assessments, and track student progress. The dashboard also includes a Master Course Sync feature that notifies instructors whenever the master course is updated, allowing them to easily synchronize the latest changes while keeping their own course updates if needed.
Student Dashboard
The Student Dashboard displays all the courses in which a student is enrolled. If a course has expired, it is clearly marked as Expired. Students can click the Activate Access button to regain access by entering a new valid access code. Once the access code is verified, they are re-enrolled in the course. The system resumes the course from the last completed activity, so students can continue learning from where they left off instead of starting the course again. While the course is expired, students cannot access the course content, but all of their previous progress and completion data is safely preserved.
Access Code Management
The Access Code Management feature ensures that only authorized users can enroll in and access courses. To enroll in a new course, students must enter both a valid Instructor ID and Access Code. If either of these details is incorrect or missing, the student cannot enroll or access the course. Once the Instructor ID and Access Code are successfully verified, the student is automatically enrolled in the selected course and can start learning. The system supports both Trial and Standard Access Codes. Trial Access Codes provide limited access to a course for a specific period, while Standard Access Codes provide full course access.
Master Course Management
The Master Course Management feature allows Labyrinth Instructors to create and manage Master Courses with administrator-level permissions. Institutes create their own copy of the Master Course, which they can use for teaching while making their own course-specific changes. Whenever a Labyrinth Instructor updates the Master Course by adding or modifying learning activities, the Institute Instructor automatically receives a notification about the available updates. The copied course includes an Update Course option that allows the Institute Instructor to synchronize the latest changes from the Master Course without recreating the course. This makes it easy to keep course content up to date while maintaining the instructor's own course setup and customizations.
LTI 1.3 and Edlink Integration
CoursePower integrates with external LMSs such as Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace (D2L), and Schoology using LTI 1.3 and Edlink. When instructors add the CoursePower external tool, they are automatically logged in through Single Sign-On (SSO) without needing another login. They can select a course, view its activities, and choose one or multiple activities to add to their LMS using LTI Deep Linking. The integration also provides an Enable Grade Sync option for each activity. After submission, all selected activities are created automatically in the external LMS. Students can launch and complete these activities directly from their LMS. Once an activity is completed, the student's grades are automatically synchronized back to the LMS gradebook. This integration simplifies course sharing, reduces manual work, and keeps learning content and grades synchronized across both platforms.
